The story goes… his Pomeranian "Diamond" knocks over a candle onto a large stack of manuscripts.  These manuscripts contained his life-long pursuits of the Philosopher's Stone.  The whole of it went up in flames and nearly destroyed his entire study.  He suffered from a nervous breakdown and the Pom was just fine.

The vast majority of his occult studies have been lost.  Newton spent decades searching for Azoth, the Universal Tincture, the Elixr.  Too often he is criticized by mystics and "spiritualists" for his "mechanistic" theories and "naturalistic God".  He was no mere "first man of rational thought"… this is a misnomer.  He was the Last Magician.
